Hi all,
Netdisco2 is not able to retrieve the MAC address of some of my H3C
Switch :
Hangzhou H3C Comware Platform Software, Software Version 3.10, Release
2211P06 H3C S3100-26TP-EI
Copyright(c) 2004-2010 Hangzhou H3C Tech. Co.,Ltd. All rights reserved.
But it work with all other types like :
H3C Comware Platform Software, Software Version 5.20 Release 2202P06 H3C
S5120-52C-PWR-EI
Copyright (c) 2004-2010 Hangzhou H3C Tech. Co., Ltd. All rights reserved.
No info about the miss when a discover job is perfomed (thru Web or
CLI).
Below, a part of the switch configuration :
Vlan-interface51 current state :UP
Line protocol current state :UP
IP Sending Frames' Format is PKTFMT_ETHNT_2, Hardware address is
*3822-d69d-fbb0*
Internet Address is x.x.x.x/24 Primary
Description : Vlan-interface51 Interface
The Maximum Transmit Unit is 1500
Is there any way to debug it ?

Clément.

I'm not familiar with that particular model (S3100-26TP-EI), but it
appears to be running Comware 3, which has a number of quirks.
I wrote an SMMP::Info module that tries to get data from historic 3Com
SuperStack equipment and the Comware 3 equipment that came after the
3Com/Huawei/H3C joint venture:
https://sites.google.com/site/jrbinks/code/netdisco/snmp-info-3com
For Comware 5, I would probably recommend ensuring that the distributed
H3C.pm continues to be used and reporting issues back to the list on that,
so you may need to be careful where into Info.pm you add the necessary
lines.

I added the suggested configuration to the switch and the macsuck
works.
Indeed i needed to add these rules to the SNMP v3 configuration:
For info, newer versions of IOS support something like:
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth context vlan- match prefix
which can save a lot of effort (and mistakes!) :-)
regards,
oliver.
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth context vlan-1
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth context vlan-2
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth context vlan-3
snmp-server group [GROUP NAME] v3 auth context vlan-4

First off, thanks for all the hard work that goes into netdisco. I have used
this so many times already that it is invaluable.
I'm looking to give access to a few other people in our IT dept, however, I
don't want them all to have full port control. I would like them to be able to
bounce ports and that's about it. We have several POE devices and all our
switches are POE, bouncing a port serves as a remote reboot in a lot of
situations. I do not want to allow them to rename or have any further control
over the switches as this must be documented outside of netdisco.
Thoughts?

This has been requested before, but is not an existing feature.
If you want to add weight to the feature request, please add comments
to this ticket explaining what you'd like to see in the app:
https://sourceforge.net/p/netdisco/nd2-features/2/
(for some reason the ticket is talking about device groups, but Role
Based Access Control also includes fine-grained port control as well,
IMO).
regards,
oliver.

Thanks Claes, it took me quite a while but now the 1.3 code contains
your update as well.
