hi,
I'm having trouble with Netdisco 2 auto discovering HP Printers. It finds the IP address but it won't Discover the SNMP entries. That being said, if I plugin the IP manually, it finds the SNMP data. Why isn't Netdisco 2 finding the data automatically? Thanks for any help!

My guess would be that the printers aren't advertising any kind of neighbor discovery protocol such as LLDP or CDP. Netdisco uses this to differentiate between devices and nodes.

More information on this is here:

Hello List,

I am trying to get the arp table from a linux net-snmpd but it fails:

netdisco@de-cacti-01:~/bin$ ./netdisco-do arpnip -D -d 127.0.0.1
[23663] 2015-02-27 16:02:12 info arpnip: started at Fri Feb 27 17:02:12 2015 [23663] 2015-02-27 16:02:13 debug [127.0.0.1] try_connect with ver: 2, class: SNMP::Info::Layer3::NetSNMP, comm: <hidden> [23663] 2015-02-27 16:02:13 info arpnip: finished at Fri Feb 27 17:02:13 2015 [23663] 2015-02-27 16:02:13 info arpnip: status done: Skipped arpnip for device 127.0.0.1/32 without OSI layer 3 capability

a tcpdump of that command shows me, that the following Information is being transfered: 17:10:56.709606 IP localhost.41810 > localhost.snmp: C=del1 GetRequest(29) 25.1.1.0 17:10:56.709853 IP localhost.snmp > localhost.41810: C=del1 GetResponse(33) 25.1.1.0=250177724 17:10:56.710206 IP localhost.41810 > localhost.snmp: C=del1 GetRequest(28) system.sysServices.0 17:10:56.710343 IP localhost.snmp > localhost.41810: C=del1 GetResponse(29) system.sysServices.0=72 17:10:56.713269 IP localhost.41810 > localhost.snmp: C=del1 GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0 17:10:56.713399 IP localhost.snmp > localhost.41810: C=del1 GetResponse(96) system.sysDescr.0="Linux cacti 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64" 17:10:56.713680 IP localhost.41810 > localhost.snmp: C=del1 GetRequest(28) system.sysObjectID.0 17:10:56.713784 IP localhost.snmp > localhost.41810: C=del1 GetResponse(38) system.sysObjectID.0=E:8072.3.2.10

When I do a SNMPwalk I can get the Information:

netdisco@cacti:~/bin$ snmpwalk -v2c  -c COMMUNITY 127.0.0.1
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Linux cacti 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64

RFC1213-MIB::atPhysAddress.2.1.172.25.9.5 = Hex-STRING: 20 BB C0 12 47 C1

Normally I would get the arp table from the router/firewall but the default gateway is a Palo Alto Networks device which does not support getting the Arp table via SNMP.

Any Ideas how to get the IP<--> Mac Mapping into the netdisco Database?

Best regards,
 Peter Soppe

Sorry to butt in but I have several Dell 5524s so here's some output
from one. If nothing else it gives a second opinion:

Hello,

I have recently installed netdisco2 in a try to check if it can browse my
Alcatel-Lucent equipements, which i have never been able to inventory with
netdisci 0.x and 1.x.

This being done now, i would like to browse my KVM hosts for guest virtual
machines and a STULZ air conditioner for temperture gauges.

could this be done using netdisco or should i look for a more general purpose
application ?

TIA.

Fathi
