Hi Michael,

Thanks for asking, and letting us know about your interesting use case :).

If you can get postgres connection (port TCP/5432 I believe, or another port if you configure PostgreSQL appropriately) through the firewalls between the various network zones then you may have a solution. You can run one central database and frontend web interface, and multiple remote satellite "netdisco-backend" pollers in the other network zones. The pollers connect to the central database to get jobs and submit result data.

There are some limitations to this, but I've used such a configuration myself in production. Let me know if this sounds feasible and I can provide more details.

Other than that, I'm not sure Netdisco supports the sharding or multi-tenancy model you really need in its current design.

regards,
oliver.

I work for a large organization. They have a large network. They are

integrate them into our network. During the process some networks are
only partially connected to our main network. Firewalls, routing rules
and overlapping NAT IP ranges stop our Netdisco server from collecting
information from these remote networks.

Some of our monitoring tools allow us to have more than one server
acting as a collector of information. We can then log onto one website
and access the information gathered by the various collectors.

Some of these collectors are placed in these unconnected networks.
This allows us to monitor these other partially consolidated networks.

Is it possible to do something similar with Netdisco? Can an instance
of Netdisco at one location send its data to an instance of Netdisco
at another location? I have heard that Postgres can replicate or sync
two databases to some extent. Is there a way to use this feature to
sync different Netdisco servers in different locations if they can
communicate with each other?

Just curious really. Unless it is very simple, by the time I could
implement it, the networks would probably be consolidated.

Thanks for all the hard work. It is a great product.

Mobile security can be enabling, not merely restricting. Employees who
bring their own devices (BYOD) to work are irked by the imposition of MDM
restrictions. Mobile Device Manager Plus allows you to control only the
apps on BYO-devices by containerizing them, leaving personal data untouched!

Does Netdisco support a way to send to syslog, rather than to

Sorry to say that no, right now there is no facility.

However the implementation might enable a rather easy patch if someone is willing. The web and daemon apps themselves simply emit messages to standard output/error streams. The scripts you run that daemonise these processes capture the streams and save them to files. These second "wrapper" scripts are quite small and could be patched to use a log system.

I hope this might tempt someone to take a look :)

oliver.

Hi, I need some assistance from the netdisco community to try get the
H3C/HP 5130 switches to work properly. We are deploying these as IRF stacks
accross many locations, however MAC suck and ARP nip are not working
properly, and even displaying the device modules. It basically shows up
blank that there is nothing connected, however it does pickup significant
mac addresses connected.

Here is the full output on the discovery. This occurs on netdisco v1 or v2
doesnt matter which version. I think either the H3C mibs is the issue or
some H3C discovery layer needs to be modified in some way to report data. I
have other 5800 series H3C switches which work ok, but this model doesnt.

Any help or assistance will be most appreciated as we keen to have these
working properly. I have pasted the below outputs. Note that it is
connected to a cisco switch above with LLDP enabled and this one also has
LLDP enabled.
