In the SNMP Connect Failures page are a number of IP addresses on a subnet I do
not recognize. They are current and showing connect failures, and indeed I
can't ping them either.

We have hundreds of 510 devices; they are coming from somewhere amongst them,
in a LLDP or CDP neighbor probably, maybe elsewhere.

Is there a way to tell where they originate? Short of trying to run each
device individually in debug?

Is a record kept of what causes a discovery job to be queued for an IP, that
you can look retroactively? Somewhere in the database is fine (I looked
briefly but had no clue where to start).

Hi Neil

Unfortunately I'm not aware of a setting to skip gathering of the location.

However, Netdisco does come with some handy tools which would allow you to update the location on your 3k devices without too much pain, so long as you have an SNMP write community string configured on the device and in Netdisco's deployment.yml file.

The netdisco-do command can set the location: https://metacpan.org/pod/netdisco-do#location

So you could write a script to run through the device names, extract the location, and then set it with netdisco-do.

To your second question - if you go to the Reports menu, under "Device" there is a "By Location" report already, which I hope gives you what you need?

regards,
oliver.

Hi

i have just installed netdisco on a large Company, and its working
really well.

unfortunatley the SMNP location is usually blank and with 3k devices
setting it would be a nightmare.

I have been able to populate the table manually (the site is in the
name in a easily extractable format)

 1. is there a config option to NOT update the location when it reads
the SNMP, or where can i take the postgres write to that item out.

 2. i was trying to look at creating a 'inventory' by location
similar to the inventory (platform / release) but just location where
you click on the location and it displays all devices for that
location. but my programming skills fall short.

thanks
