earendilfr's work has been once again added, with some changes and tweaks by
me. i would like to give him a few days, so that if he has the time that he can
have a look at it before it get's committed. regretfully i don't have any

i'll reach out to earendilfr first, since he did the work already. i'll see if
i can also get some testing done with the changed version. we mostly use the
rancid export once every few weeks to months to update our device db. for most
of our devices we use standard templated configs anyway, rancid is more way to
check if noone has been fooling around with the configs behind our backs for
most of our network.

Oh OK, weird! the change is still in the Changes file, oops. (search for
delimiter)
I think the principle of the changes proposed was fine - perhaps the
implementation was messy. Do feel free to update the default delimiter and any
other changes you feel appropriate for RANCID 3.x

#408 was followed by #417 (https://github.com/netdisco/netdisco/pull/417), at
which point there seems to have been confusion about the changes so nothing got
committed in the end. seems the original author earendilfr made quite a few
patches for netdisco & snmp::info in the past, but no activity on his profile
since november 13th.

As of 2.39.29 I believe the default delimiter was already changed, as a result
of merging this PR:

However do let me know if that's not the case! I do not use RANCID here with
Netdisco, so am not familiar with its operation.

how many of you are still using rancid versions older as rancid 3.0 (which was
released april 2014)?
currently our default config.db delimiter is ':', while rancid 3.0 switched
this to ';' - mostly for ipv6 support.
as such, i'd like to change the default delimiter to ';' for an easier out of
the box experience. note that this is a default which you can override in the
config file.
