Hello list,

I have netdot 1.0.2 installed and I am trying to document some of our fiber
connections with it. One of our datacenters is in a co-lo facility and we need
to document how the fiber is extended to our equipment. The way I understand
things from the documentation is that we need to create a hierarchy something
like this to begin to create backbone cables:

Site
->Floor
-->Room
--->Closet (in our case, racks)

>From there we can create backbone cables from closet (rack) in site A, to
>closet (rack) in site B. After that is created, we can "splice" fiber strands
>together to signify which ports on the patch panels we are on. Once this is
>done we can then create a circuit that shows the fiber strands we are using.

However, when I create the circuit I can't for the life of me get the fiber
sequences to show up for me to select them as part of the circuit. I have
manually added them by going to each fiber strand in the backbone cables, but
I'm not sure if that is correct or not. What is the proper method of
documenting fiber backbone cables and associating them to circuits?

Also, since we are in a co-lo, the lack of being able to create racks and patch
panels as "entities" doesn't allow us accurately describe the physical layout
of the fiber. I can enter in a feature request, but I see there are a couple
out there dealing with cable plant so I don't want to create duplicates.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

AJ Schroeder

Hello,

This may have been addressed already.... Please pardon the duplicate
question.

I'm getting this error message when i go to do "make upgrade"

DBI
connect('dbname=netdot;host=localhost;mysql_local_infile=1','root',...)
failed: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
at ../lib/DBUTIL.pm line 134.
Unable to connect to mysql netdot db: Access denied for user
'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

The DB password is in the site.conf and Default.conf files. Where in
the syntax would I place the password for the DB?

Thanks,

-Mike

You probably need to copy the installed Site.conf to the new (1.0.2)
source package directory tree.

BTW, 1.0.3 is out, and it's possible to go from 1.0.1 to 1.0.3.

Thank you Carlos,

The plan was to go to 1.0.3 today. After looking at the docs for 1.0.3
I didn't see anything to see if it support 1.0.1- >1.0.3

Thanks I will try that instead.

This is the part that I'm not sure about. What exactly do you mean by
"splicing the strands together to signify..."?

The way we thought of this was to splice strands in backbone A-B with
strands in backbone B-C.

It is also possible to assign a circuit to strands from backbone A-B
alone (no splicing).

Yes, this is a known limitation. Our goal for a future release is to
change this structure into something more flexible, like a nested
location record which can be pretty much anything (site, building,
floor, room, rack, etc)

Carlos,

I was able run all the scripts just fine going from 1.0.1 ->1.0.3.
But when I try to get into netdot I get a internal server error 500.

from the httpd log i have this message:

[client 172.22.215.227] failed to resolve handler `Netdot::Mason':
Netdot DB schema version mismatch: Netdot version '1.0.3' != Schema
version '1.0.2' at /usr/local/netdot/lib/Netdot/Model.pm line

failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/netdot/lib/Netdot/Mason.pm
line 21.\nCompilation failed in require at (eval 54) line 3.\n

Should I manually change the version to 1.0.3 or is there another script
i should run?

Oops. I should have tested this better. Sorry.

I think that if you run make upgrade again, it will finish it.

Or you can update the schemainfo record manually.
