Solved this one myself..
If using remote authentication but local authorization, this option
# tells Netdot to create a Person object with the given user type
# when a Person object is not found for the authenticated username
#
# Valid values are 'User', 'Operator', 'Admin' and 'none'
DEFAULT_REMOTE_AUTHED_USER_TYPE => 'Operator',

Is there any way to set a default permission level for ldap auth'd users? As
it stands we have to have each user log into the system, then go back in and
add them to a contact list / add permissions. It would be great if we could
say by default users are part of a read only contact list.
