Elvyn, Generally, the name of the link will set the filename. In ND, setting the name of the link to something other than the mess it currently is, is a non-trivial matter. For Netscape 4+ (maybe 3 as well) you can send "Content-Disposition: Attachment; filename=myfile.xyz" as an additional HTTP header. This will set the name for the save as dialog. The behavior of IE 3/4/5 is severely busted in this area (check their site to get gory details -- I think it was a WebMen column :) My recommendation: use the Content-Disposition header, this takes care of Navigator and other browsers. For IE, read the article from MS, and then follow their advice (have some text on the link that says "right click this link" :) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Team NetDynamics Unite for Java! -- www.javalobby.org > -----Original Message----- > From: Elvyn Wheatley [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, April 15, 1999 8:37 AM > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' > Subject: [ND] Default file name in Save As dialog > > Hi, > > When a href is clicked on a particular page, some details are downloaded > to the client.
