window.history is a read-only object, and I don't think the browser wants to
allow the user to change it programmatically.

You can have Javascript close the current window provided the current window
was opened by Javascript in the first place.

So one options will be, when he clicks Login you take him to a new window
where he does all the work and on Done, make the window close itself. If he
didn't got to other windows in between he should see himself back at the
Login page. BankBoston online banking does something similar, except that it
doesn't close the window, but politely asks you to close, after showing the
logged out message.
