We too had applets created under version 3 that we migrated to version 4. Our original
applet was in a zip file and called by an archive entry in the applet tag.
This
encapsulation of the various classes is necessary.
However, we ran into a strange problem. Whereas our old applet ran fine with Netscape
version 3 and 4.01, the same applet going against the new Netdynamics server will ONLY
run with Netscape 4.51.
All other versions of Netscape deploying this applet will fail during the HttpProxy
call with a strange
Error message:
HttpProxy Exception: spider.util.CSpCPHttpProxyCommException:
java.io.StreamCorruptedException:
InputStream does not contain a serialized object.

This same message was referenced in technote 658 which stated that this was sometimes
caused by calling
ExecuteSelect() when the session had expired. We tried that fix without result.

Sometimes we get the java.io.IOException(null) sometimes we get
java.io.IOException:stream closed

Needless to say it has yet to work with these browsers going against Netdynamics 4.x
but continues to function flawlessly against version 3.
