Hi Troy,

We actually wanted to keep our session alive as long as the browser remained
open as well. The solution we came up with is kind of odd, but it works
incredibly well.

Our application has 3 frames. In the top frame, we actually added an additional,
very small (1 pixel wide) frame. The document in that frame (pagRefresh) has a
Meta tag at the top that refreshes every 540 seconds (our session timeout is set
to 10 minutes), which keeps the session from expiring at all. See below:

---Begin pagRefresh.html---

<HTML>
     <HEAD>
          <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="540">
          <TITLE>pagRefresh</TITLE>
     </HEAD>
     <BODY>
          <FORM NAME="pagRefresh" METHOD=POST ACTION="../MyProject/pagRefresh">
               <INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="SPIDERSESSION"
VALUE="?????_???@[????BOs\H?????????LdsEALZuvyXLo???LhIwRtkILZUNUok]Qd}fvrUKB|qGaq^^wTwNrta?\Wktbs}BDxZjcJfV_S|P@uzOmwDF`L]Fmw\wO|A]OdI}@j_Ct|[FdaEUJ\G?@K{YZ`BnscDV_ckntiDU@w|ZArUJLW|ZFoGYiT]quKISpd@}CQyV@|MOeu`OxdZNdTkJITLkfk?NEo|tarUNupzFcuyOW`TEFKLOYHHmt_~NVxlvaqrNUpTOcidRZHz?DCLVx@GhCwlV?l}hfI}NVDTOcIdQZLZFdGZVwPIgt?bV@|Cmejw^?_|ZAvUJlW|Z?">

               <INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="^uniqueValue" VALUE="933955642203">
          </FORM>
     </BODY>
</HTML>

---End pagRefresh.html---

I think the only time we run into trouble with this is when users minimize their
browsers. I believe that not all browsers perform meta tag refreshes when they
are minimized. (I can't remember the specifics on which browsers do what, but I
can try to find my notes if you need that information...)

Hope that helps,
Beth

Subject:  [ND] session expiring event

Hey all,

has anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet.

I am having a lot of trouble with it. A few of our pages have a lot of
information required. It takes some users a lot of time to enter... (we
timeout a lot) The timeout is already set to 30 minutes and I don't want to
go any higher.

I have SAVE SESSION buttons on the page, but I am required to make it happen
automatically.
Is there any way to use this event (sessionExpiring) without crashing it??

Is there an ONBeforeSessionExpiry or something?

I would really appreciate some help - I am getting desperate :)

I am attempting to implement a javascript timer that will force a
load(false) at 29 minutes... to ensure the session is kept active... (this
will be nice if I getting working because Sessions are only kept alive if
the browser is open)
I still don't know if this is possible and if it is I would still like to be
able to have a java fallback if javascript is disabled or whatever.

Cheers

Troy
