Configuring PVCS Version Control
System for Workstations with
NetDynamics
Public
Assumptions:
1.PVCS is installed as a network version.
2.Location of relevant PVCS network folders:
J:\PVCS - Main collection of PVCS program and
subfolders
J:\ServiceDelivery\pvcs - Base directory for
Service
Version Control files
Installing PVCS on a workstation:
1.Set the Environment Variable: ISLVINI = C:\WINNT in
Control
Panel/System/Environment Variables.
2.Reboot the computer. (If you need to only)
3.Install PVCS Version Manager on the workstation: run
J:\PVCS\vmnt\setup.exe and follow instructions
on-screen.
4.Install PVCS SCC on the workstation: run
J:\PVCS\ifnt\setup.exe
and follow instructions on-screen, be sure to install
the Online
Documentation. PVCS components will all be installed on
the
workstation at this point.
5.Start PVCS Version Manager.
6.Close any projects that are open.
7.From the menu, select "Options/Data File Locations".
8.Enter "J:\ServiceDelivery\pvcs" in the Project Root
Directory box.
9.Click the OK button.
10.Exit PVCS.
Enable access to PVCS from NetDynamics:
1.Run NetDynamics Studio without opening a project.
2.From the menu, select "Options/General Options".
3.Click the Source Control tab in the window.
4.Deselect the checkbox next to "Disable Source Code
Control".
5.Select PVCS Version Manager in the "Version Control
System"
drop-down listbox.
6.Click the OK button.
7.Close NetDynamics.
NetDynamics will now have access to PVCS Version Manager.
Creating a new project in PVCS:
1.Start PVCS Version Manager.
2.From the menu, select "Project/New Project".
3.Click "Project Assistant" in the window.
4.Click the Next button in the next window.
5.Enter the name of the new project. Ensure "No" is
selected for
"Do source files already exist for this project?".
6.Click the Next button.
7.Accept the default settings in the next window and
click the Next
button.
8.Click the Create Project button on the final page to
create the
project. A new project has now been created.
9.Setup configuration of the new project:
From the menu, select "Project/Configure Project".
In the Categories: pane, select Archive
Directories.
In the Directories: pane, select
"J:\ServiceDelivery\pvcs\"
where is the name of the newly created project.
Click the Add>> button to add the chosen directory
to the
"Archive Directories in Order:" pane.
Click the OK button.
In the Categories: pane, select Project Options.
In the Project Working Directory: select box,
click the small
button with glasses.
Find the NetDynamics project directory related to
this
PVCS project. For example,
"J:\ServiceDelivery\Apps\Iteration1\Projects\Nominations"
Click the OK button.
Click the Save button. The project should be
configured
properly at this point.
Exit PVCS Version Manager.
Adding NetDynamics project objects to a PVCS project:
1.Start NetDynamics Studio.
2.Open the project to be added to PVCS.
3.A window will appear asking to open a PVCS project.
Select the
appropriate project from the list.
4.The Project Working Directory: box at the bottom of the
window
should be populated with the correct working directory
for the
NetDynamics project as configured during the PVCS
project's
creation.
5.Click the OK button.
6.From the menu, select "Tools/Source Control/Add to
Source
Control". A list of all available objects will appear
in the left pane of
a new window.
7.Select all of the objects.
8.Click the Add button.
9.Enter any comments in the subsequent windows if needed.
10.Click the OK or OK to All buttons in the windows to add
the
related files to PVCS.
11.After the objects have been added to PVCS, each object
will have
a check mark beside it in the NetDynamics object
browser
window indicating that the object is checked out.
12.At this point the objects are registered in the PVCS
Version
Manager. However, they are not checked in.
Checking in all objects to PVCS:
1.From the menu, select "Tools/Source Control/Check In".
2.Click the OK button on the subsequent windows to add
each
object.
3.After the objects have been checked in to PVCS, each
object will
have an "x" beside it in the NetDynamics object browser
window;
the "x" indicates that the object is checked in.
Checking out an object from PVCS:
1.Select the object in the NetDynamics object browser
window.
2.Right click on the object and select "Source
Control/Check Out"
or from the menu, select "Tools/Source Control/Check
Out".
