Try to execute the sql using execute() and execute the doAutoLoad() method of the 
combo box.
Try to do that in onbeforeload of the page and see if that works.
I do not know why your logic did not get execute.
This at least will proof whether your logic is correct or not.
The worst case is you are executing the data object twice.
