(I posted the following to the ND 3 forum yesterday and got almost no response
so I thought I'd post it the ND 4 forum as well in hopes of getting more
attention from those who have experience with ND3)

Greetings!

Pardon the length of this message...

I have been going around and around with folks at Sun to try to understand
what our options are for upgrading our ND 3 license to support more users
for an app we are going to roll out in 3 weeks. I'm getting a little frustrated
that the folks I've been referred to have little or no understanding of the
ND 3 architecture and how it relates to licensing. Add to the mix my limited
understanding and you can probably appreciate the problem.

Anyway, here's my understanding of what we have as far as licensing is
concerned...We have a "workgroup" license which limits us to 3 "dynachannels".
Now my understanding of a "dynachannel" is a CP which has an open ND project.
Now that means that my machine can have 3 of our projects (applications) open
concurrently. First question: Is that correct?

Now each dynachannel (CP) can support approximately 10 concurrent users. Second
question: Is that correct?

If the above are correct, what happens if three projects have been opened
(all three dynachannels used) and someone tries to access a fourth application?
Will one of the (hopefully idle) CPs close the project it has opened and
switch to the fourth project? Or will the connection be refused? Is there any
sort of timeout on open projects involved? Just how "dynamic" are the
dynachannels?

I've been told that I can upgrade my license to support more dynachannels
(after we pay more $$). The "NetDynamics 3.1 Configuration Guide" document
which Marilyn Beaudreau sent out last week indicates that there are three
license options beyond "workgroup". Each supports more dynachannels and a
corresponding number of concurrently open projects. It also looks like the
10 concurrent user per dynachannel limitation holds across the board. Third
question: Is that correct?

Now for my $64,000 Question: If I upgrade to more dynachannels can two or
more dynachannels have any one project open? That is, can any project
(application) handle more than the 10 concurrent users?

I need confirmation that by upgrading to (say) 10 dynachannels, I can handle
(say) 40 concurrent users of project A while other projects B, C & D each
handle their handful of concurrent users.

Can someone who better understands the ND 3 architecture provide me with
said confirmation so that I can go back to the non-technical Sun folks with
better understanding of exactly what I need in the way of licensing?

Ad<Thanks>vance for any prompt responses.
