You were right, the problem had nothing do to with the License Key.
I finally solved the problem yesterday afternoon.
The problem was that the Studio Password somehow got clobbered.
I just happened to notice this on about the 20th visit to this area.
In the Studio, under Options, Server Options, Password field, is 
normally filled with asteriks (stars), it was blank. I entered the 
password, exited, then re-entered the Studio and wall lawww
it connected to the server, with no problem.

This original error message is really very generic, how simple
would it be for NetDynamics to have provided an error message
password invalid or missing.
