Hi,
I think you could do what you want to do, but I wonder if it will be worth
all the trouble to develop it and make it work.
If you go the way that I was talking about, it would push you into EJBs,
perhaps before you are ready.
Another route would be to get some sort of direct reference to the ND5 JDBC
service, perhaps via JNDI or CORBA naming service or something. I really
don't know. That route might also force you to code at a lower level than
you want to be at.
I remember railing in here not long ago about how people were naive to
think they could just chuck all the added value of ND and go right into
using J2EE out of the box. I've since backed off from that position. The
out of the box functionality of JDBC, servlets, JSP, beans, and basic java
is very high, which lessens the value add of ND and competitors'
proprietary development environments. I would urge you to ask yourself the
same question that I am about to explore soon: "How hard would it _really_
be to write (or steal) my own JDBC connection pooling mechanism".
Happy Boxing Day (official),
Curt Springer, Team ND
