Exacly what you are asking for is impossible, but if I have read your
intentions correctly, you could do the following:

<TD COLOR=**st1**> **st2** **st3** </TD>

st1_onBeforeDisplay(): setValue to "RED" or "BLUE", also set an *instance
variable* for later use in:
st2_onBeforeDisplay() and st3_onBeforeDisplay()
to selectively do 'return SKIP' - to make the unwanted element disappear.
