Here is my recommendation base on my own experience and some feed back from ND about 
one year ago:-

1. If speed is what you are looking for you can use microsoft's java sdk 3.1 or 3.2.  
I have use them without any problem for nd 4.1.3.
2. It is always a good practice to recompile everythnig using the sun compiler for 
product release.
3. I have never use IBM's compiler. With my knowledge about the JVM, compilers, byte 
codes etc. I would say most compilers which claim they are compitable with sjava 1.1 
should work.  
If the compiler optimize stuff and use java 1.2 then it may have problem.
