One way you can do this is through a set of third party java classes provided by a
vendor specializing in encryption and security.
We use SSLava from Phaos technologies (www.phaos.com) and this toolkit
definately includes classes for retrieving and validating client certificates. Another
toolkit you might want to look at is J/SSL from Baltimore Technologies
(http://www.baltimore.com/products/jssl/index.html).
