I like to see a solution for the back button.
I have not look into it much.

The code >><body onLoad="location='forms[0].hdPageName.value'">

will redirect and try to load forms[0].hdPageName.value immediately and not continue 
to load your nd page.

I sometimes use the same method to open up a new window and load another page.

The History object have your priouse page url's.

There is a method call replace() for the location object. (In javascript 1.1)

That may work.
I have not try it yet.
