I would say it depends on your users connection 
speed.  If your users have fast connections
and your queries are tuned, it's probably
easier to make the round trips.  I've used
the javascript approach with a slightly
smaller dataset and it works, but there are
some differences in how IE/Netscape interpret
javascript.

If your users have slower connections, I would
definately pursue the javascript approach;
it will take a little longer to load the
first page, but you save the round trips.
