1. iPlanet is currently under beta. The Solaris version was out at end of Feb
and NT version was out mid March.
2. Some might have done development work on it. I have installed the NT version and
get the first serve let working. One of our contractors have install and get
the
sample “Bank” application up running under Solaris. I am running
out
of time to do anything right now.
3. Current NetDynamics customers will be able to leverage their current
Contracts with ND when switching to iPlanet (license and support agreements,
etc. My understanding is that if you have the maintenance contract , your upgrade is
free.
4. Will current ND (4.x or 5.x) applications be able to be transitioned to
iPlanet or will they need to be completely rewritten. That depend on what your
project uses.
You should ask ND for a copy of the migration guide from ND to iPlanet.
Email Bill Lazar [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] who originally came from ND and is the
product manager for iPlanet now.
5. What development skills will be needed for iPlanet?
More than ND because it is all j2ee and the tools do not do as much for you as
the ND tools.
More Java coding.
6. Is there a site discussing these issues for current ND customers?
Good question. None that I know of except in here.
