I have been having a problem with my Mail/Routing server. I'll try and describe it in as much detail as i can. The internal mail clients, outlook, eudora, netscape 4.x & 6.x, outlook express are timing out on send unless they set their timeout to over 2 minutes.
I tried a raw connection to my mail server internally on port 25 and it was 2 minutes before i got the SMTP header. I tried this exact same experiment from my web server to my mail server on their external IP's and it worked instantly. The SMTP logs show connections adding up as if it connects but when it tries to reply it gets nothing. SO the smtp connections are incrementing. In fact because of the delay problem they are actually getting close to the max connections i have set for the smtp.
