Sure. It's an ASUS motherboard with an Intel Pentium III processor, 700 MHz, 256 MB
SDRAM.

As to kernel update: I have just got an 2.4.16 kernel as SuSE RPM, that is pretty
simple to install. Will that do - or do I have to compile kernel from source ? (some
piece of work...)

I noticed, that iptables is meanwhile out in version 1.2.6a - I guess I could
download and compile that, provided it's supposed to be better than the 1.2.2,which I
have ?

Regards, Joern.

Could you post what specs you have on your firewall box? Like
processor, ram, etc.

I notice that you have the 2.4.10 kernel. That's pretty old. Is it
possible to upgrade?
