What Jason said. But also, searching the netlogo-devel archives for "hubnet client" will turn up multiple past threads on this subject of writing custom HubNet clients. It is definitely possible and multiple people have done it.
HubNet view mirroring specifically may not have been discussed before though. I don't think there's any developer documentation on it, and my memories of it are somewhat dim, but if you ask specific questions, there's a good chance I could be helpful.
