As an aside, should file system primitives be moved to an extension? I feel somewhat uncomfortable building out the full set of primitves that would be needed to give good file system support.
Since you've been working in classes, do you find that extension primitives get used less or are seen as lesser? As for your specific question, I suspect the reason is not due to any specific reason but simply a lack of implementing it.
