YANG Versioning Weekly Call Minutes - 2020-11-24

We started by discussing the Liaison statement for ORAN:
- it is desirable to avoid ORAN mandating the *removal* of something
- it is OK if ORAN lists 'minimum' functionality
- Deviations are not allowed in Packages period (and refer to 7950 section
7.20.3). Not even "BC" deviations (e.g. increasing max-elements)
- Order of deviations are not defined. So if ORAN deviates and an
implementation deviates, it is ambiguous how the server will behave. (should
be compilation error)
- we need to point towards an RFC or draft that supports what we recommend
- don't use "not" in if-feature (i.e. don't use features to turn things off)
- ideally point to ORAN *text*
- Balazs to send updated draft text
- Do we have a Liaison officer for 3GPP ? IAB program. No Liaison currently
for IETF <-> ORAN. Scott can help broker this.

Then we discussed setting up virtual interims.

VIRTUAL INTERIM TOPICS:

Jason to deal with interim admin (6:30am/9:30am/10:30pm) - 1 hour max
- doodle poll for days Dec 14-17 (mon-thurs)
- 20-30 mins per item and come back if time
- intro/abstract for each issue

A) Module Versioning: import by revision issues: - Reshad
- impact of changing an import by revision
- what flavors of import by revision (greater, greater-and-nbc)
B) Module Versioning: Whitespace (interactions with Packages checksums) - Jan
C) Module Versioning: name of file (2 file name, symbolic link, etc) - Balazs
D) IANA considerations: BGP address families <- discuss with authors first -
Rob

x) SemVer: mandatory for IETF ?
x) SemVer: initial version for drafts, updates, etc
x) SemVer: gaps in history, removing revision statements

Next steps:
- prepare & review slides before interims
- have interims
- on mailing list, send the final proposed decision from the interim
- LC will be the final chance for debate/change

Checksums:
- packages gives URL + SHA hash (SHA over contents)
- is checksum associated with a URL, or is it associated with a module version
- CR/LF differences in file formats
- the publisher/owner defines what v1.0.1 is and contains

Rgds,
Jason
