XRay 1.0.7 - award-winning "Get Info" utility now with hot key Belo Horizonte, Brazil - November 28, 2003 Rainer Brockerhoff announces the release of version 1.0.7 of XRay, the File/Folder information utility for Mac OS X. This version is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) and supersedes the previous 1.0.6 release. XRay offers users a much more detailed view of files, folders, applications and volumes than Mac OS X's "Get Info" window does. Permissions can be changed without resorting to obscure terminal commands. Type, creator and extension can be examined and changed, and their effect on file-application binding is shown immediately. Types, creators and extensions can be selected from pop-up menus built from the system's own databases. XRay 1.0.7 can now be invoked from the Finder and many other programs, by selecting an item (or a full pathname in text) and typing Command-Shift-X. XRay can also be run from the Finder's Contextual menu, the Services menu or by dragging and dropping items onto the application's windows or dock icon. Third-party developers can write plug-ins that further augment XRay's capabilities. A developer plug-in is included; more plug-ins will released soon. This version has several bug fixes and features, among them: - When running on Panther, the Finder's label colors and names are now shown in the same order that they appear in the Finder (which is different from the Classic Finder's order). - Editing type and creator ASCII values now works again under Jaguar. - There are two new preferences for the "Type, Creator & Extension" panel: "Show native applications not in 'Applications' folders" and "Show classic applications not in 'Applications (Mac OS 9)'". They are off by default; this will cut down the panel's popup menus down to a more manageable size. Also, the popups will no longer show applications contained in .app packages. - The popup menu in the built-in file browser now has a "Copy Path" item, which will copy the file's full path to the clipboard. The actual path is also shown in the menu as a disabled item. - The "Edit" menu now has a "Copy Path" item as well, this will copy the top window's full path to the clipboard. - The "Type, Creator & Extension" panel now has a "Open Item in Application" button, which will become active only if there are no unsaved changes. This will open the current item in its assigned application. XRay is US$10 shareware. There's a two-week trial period during which XRay will run with full functionality; after that, Administrator authorization can be used only once during each run. XRay can be downloaded from the product information page at: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12103 Mac OS X 10.2 is required, 10.2.8 or 10.3 recommended.
