For debian packaging related improvements, I'd rather be happy if you work towards upstreaming that directly into Debian (Cc'ing Kartik, who is the Debian maintainer). Wrt your question: In curvetun's daemonize(), we hijack stdout and stderr to redirect normal printf() output into syslog in daemon mode. You could specify an option to have an alternative log file, I wouldn't mind. Could you send a patch? Thanks, Daniel
