Hi,

well the windows port is progressing, albeit a touch slowly [well
according to my standards  :-D ];

the browser window displays now for a simple html page such as the
default Apache page from localhost; in fact it works to display
recognisable pages for test pages from localhost generally, including
simple css, more advanced css, without large-scale data corruption;
details need addressing such as wrapping, style, occasional wayward
chars, etc; www.google.com is relatively normal; www.yahoo.com feeds
corrupted data though at least the console is uncorrupted; even
www.bbc.co.uk is recognisable

redrawing works in a basic way, ie a redraw request is sent to the core
for every window redraw event, I notice particularly when moving the
window it should be smoother; one reason for that is that to avoid an
endless loop I set a time limit between redraws; it seems that windows'
WM_PAINT message is really rather basic, hopefully I 'll discover more
useful ways of managing it as I progress

Aside from that I foresee adding font style to the plotting, then
hopefully adding images;

as for the encoding bug, let's simply say the 'simple answer' of
adjusting the LIBICONV_PLUG setting needs more looking into

the toolbar I have tried to organise as 2 rebar controls for now; one
for the toolbuttons, one for the url bar; making the url bar a dropdown
combo; however the primary objective of simplifying resizing of the
controls as the window is resized, seems to need further work as
primarily both controls are put at the top-left of the rebar area,
superimposed; in windows as well as in emulation; it would seem
inconsistent with the 'automatic' management of rebars that I would need
to recalculate the sub-elements' positions every time; as for making the
url bar 'work', well it's a necessary task :-)

the new MotherBoard turned up Friday so I've been enjoying configuring
NVidia's screen resolution – thankfully after a little bit of work
higher resolution than ever – upgrading my Ubuntu distribution from
Hardy to Intrepid at least; upgrading my VMware installation to version
2; then discovering that I may have to persuade my ISP to send me a
replacement modem whose Ethernet port is working [configurable in router
mode] to re-enable shares from a windows VM to Ubuntu, though [not]
emulation seems sufficient for my development purposes for now :-)

Best regards

Mark
