(somehow when I added the CC. to dos-discuss I must have erased the
address to Nettamer, and I think that's where Renaldo's question
originated.--Cheryl

Subject: Re: [DOS-DISCUSS] Accented characters

Renaldo, I am just starting to figure out accented letters for Spanish, so
I may just be showing my ignorance. Also, I work part of the time with
Nettamer and part of the time with Commo, as I have both a shell and a PPP
account. I am working under DOS with Jaws for DOS, so you will know from
where my comments come.
I know that in the DOS editor you can use alt-shift and type the Ascii
character, but you have mentioned that that is a hassle with your screen
reader; it may be with mine also as I haven't tried it yet. Would my DOS
manual (I have it on e-disk) give me a list of the extended Ascii
characters?
The other possibility that I am exploring is using the DOS international
commands, which you can find in your DOS help files. Again, I haven't
tried this, but I understand from my reading that there are tables at the
end of the "keyb" command help file for both keyboard reformatting and
character set change. I have no idea what our screen readers will do with
ththese. There are other international commands listed in the DOS help
files. I do now know that "country" is actually used to enable one to
read files that are written in a foreign language character set, rather
than having to do with writing. I am sending this message also to the
DOS-discuss group, in hope of getting more feedback. If any one out there
has used the "keyb" "country" or other international commands, or if anybody has used
the extended Ascii
characters to enter foreign language accented characters, please respond
so we can learn from your expertise. Thanks--Cheryl
