Oktober 2006, 20 Uhr Sarah Cook The logic of historical re-enactment: re-speaking and re-mediating in contemporary art Vortrag, Eintritt frei Die Medien-Kuratorin Sarah Cook präsentiert und diskutiert in ihrem Vortrag künstlerische Werke, in welchen sich KünstlerInnen mit der Re-Inszenierung, dem Wieder-Sprechen oder des mit Hilfe technischer Mittel möglichen Nacherlebens konkreter historischer Momente beschäftigen. Bezugnehmend auf umfangreiche Forschungsergebnisse und auf die neuesten theoretischen Auseinandersetzungen mit Re-Inszenierungspraktiken wird Sarah Cook die Unterschiede zwischen Re-Inszenierung und Simulation herausarbeiten und auf die Bedeutung der Schrift bei der Darstellung von erinnerter oder eingebildeter Vergangenheit eingehen. Sarah Cook arbeitet als unabhängige Kuratorin im Bereich Neue Medien und ist z.Z. als promovierte wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Universität Sutherland in England beschäftigt, wo sie CRUMB, einer Internetplattform für Medien-Kuratoren, mitgründete. Seit 2000 pendelt sie zwischen Großbritannien und Kanada um Ausstellungen, wie Database Imaginary (2004) oder Package Holiday (2005) zu kuratieren, um bildungspädagogische Projekte zu organisieren und um Artist in Residence-Programme bei BALTIC, The Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead), dem New Media Institute und der Walter Phillips Gallery am Banff Centre (Banff) zu leiten. Drawing on a wide body of research and recent theoretical arguments about the practice of re-enactment, Cook will outline the differences between re-enactment and simulation, and the importance of the script in re-presenting a remembered or imagined past. Dr. Sarah Cook is an independent new media curator and currently post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Sunderland, England, where she is the co-founder of CRUMB an online resource for curators of new media art (www.crumbweb.org). Since 2000 she has split her time between the UK and Canada, curating exhibitions (Database Imaginary, 2004; The Art Formerly Known As New Media 2005; Package Holiday, 2005), organising educational projects, editing publications and managing artists residencies in conjunction with BALTIC, The Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead) and the New Media Institute and The Walter Phillips Gallery at The Banff Centre (Banff).
