In de tentoonstelling Borderline Behaviour - drawn towards animation, toont The Art of the Overhead een verzameling overheadsheets die afkomstig zijn van kunstenaars, grafici, filmmakers, cartoonisten, schrijvers enzovoorts. Het archief wordt getoond in een foldersysteem en de bezoekers kunnen eigenhandig het archief doornemen. Op 15 februari presenteert TENT. een live versie van het archief: The Art of the Overhead stelt een avond samen met poëtische, psychedelische en rudimentaire overheadprojecties van Katrin Bethge, een workshop overheadrobots maken met 'derstrudel' en een informatieve overheadlezing over The Art of the Overhead. Linda Hilfling en Kristoffer Gansing (dk/se) presenteren 'Ohistory!', een onvervalst ouderwetse lezing met overheadsheets over een medium dat al bijna is vergeten in het digitale tijdperk: de overheadprojector. Grafieken, statistieken, opsommingen, we hebben ze allemaal langs zien komen in de eindeloze PowerPointpresentaties die we tegenwoordig voorgeschoteld krijgen. Maar geen muiskliks zijn hier vanavond nodig, alleen het handmatig omdraaien van een overheadsheet: want voordat de PowerPoint er was, was er: The Art of The Overhead. De Hamburgse kunstenaar Katrin Bethge projecteert licht, kleur, abstracte vormen en structuren op muren, kamers en de stad. Haar werk is met recht analoog te noemen, met behulp van attributen als olijfolie, water en meel ontwikkelen haar projecties zich langzaam tot een poëtische, abstracte vertelling. Met recht een performance die je niet mag missen! Volgens 'derstrudel' kan iedereen zijn eigen overheadrobot ontwerpen en bouwen. Met eenvoudige motortjes, zonnepanelen en een aantal elektronische componenten zijn ze zo in elkaar gezet. Deze Overheadbots opereren volkomen autonoom, al hun energie wordt geleverd door de overheadprojector. Als parasieten kruipen ze over het glazen vlak van de overheadprojector en zetten ze licht om in beweging. Het hele principe werkt als een klein ecosysteem en behoeft geen verdere ingrepen wanneer de overheadprojector opgestart is. Vanavond kan het publiek onder de geïnspireerde leiding van 'derstrudel' zijn eigen overheadbots maken. 'derstrude'l zijn: Christian Faubel, Sebastian Noth, Markus Mildenstein en Yuila Sandamirskaya. THE ART OF THE OVERHEAD THURSDAY 15 FEBRUARI 2007, 20.00 hrs: TENT.EVENT In the exhibition Borderline Behaviour - drawn towards animation, the contribution of The Art of the Overhead consist of a growing collection of overhead slides submitted by artists, graphic designers, filmmakers, cartoonists, writers, et cetera. The archive is displayed in an interactive wall-mounted folder system. Each folder contains the work of one artist and the exhibition visitors can browse the archive by taking down the folders and projecting the overhead slides themselves. On Feb 15t, TENT. presents a live version of the archive: The Art of the Overhead compiled an evening with poetic, psychedelic and rudimentary projections by Katrin Bethge, a workshop overheadbots by 'derstrudel' and an overhead lecture on the concept of The Art of the Overhead and the overhead archive. The Art of the Overhead is a small festival celebrating artistic expression in a medium that is almost forgotten in the age of digital reproduction: the overhead projector. Business graphs, statistics, mathematic formulas, grammar, famous quotes. We know them all from endless PowerPoint presentations. But no mouse clicks are needed, only the manual turning of a slide, because before there was PowerPoint, there was the Art of the Overhead. Hamburg-based artist Katrin Bethge projects lights, color, abstract forms, textures and pictures on walls, rooms or urban environments. Her work is an analogue process, developing a kind of abstract storytelling, a life-made hand-made film, while ordinary rooms loose their origins and change places or different ages. Build your own 'overheadbot' with 'derstrudel'. With their workshop, anyone can build and design his own unique small overhead robot. They use small printed circuits boards, so the circuit can be soldered very quickly! 'derstrudel' provides the smallest motors, solar panels and various electronic components. For individual design and look they also provide lots of different materials like: shiny paper, colored foils, wire, springs, etc. Electronic know-how is not required. 'Overheadbots' live on overheads, a bit like parasites they sit on top of the overhead and convert its light into their proper motion.
