TRANSITIONERS
a project by Société Réaliste,
exhibited in the context of Between Black and White / Bunker
Design,
a group show curated by Miklos Peternak for the 2nd Moscow Biennale
at the Hungarian Cultural Centre.

Conceived as a series of exhibitions, Société Réaliste's Transitioners
is a trend design agency specialized in political transitions.
Transposing the principles of prospective design, generally used by
"fashion trend agencies", to the field of politics, Société Réaliste
questions the revolution (transition?) as a central category for the
contemporary western society. Transitioners surveys the
mutations of revolution as a form. How can a "democratic transition" be
produced? What is the role of design in the permanent conversion
of politics into mythology? How can the effect of an event on people be
transformed into a controlled affect?
Fashion trend agencies provide some basic feelings that remain crucial
for the good nervous health of the creation industry, like the dynamic
variation of the same or the anticipation of the unpredictable. The
work of a design agency like Transitioners consists in
conceiving collections of political transitions: following the season's
geopolitical zeitgeist, the agency defines the assets to be highlighten
in a
revolutionary movement in order to maximize its political efficiency
and its impact on the media. In Moscow, the Paris-based duo Société
Réaliste presents a Transitioners' collection inspired by the
French Revolution and entitled Bastille Days. By producing tools for a
prospective design, the specific atmosphere of this revolutionary event
has been determined and is now proposed as a trend base for the
transitions to come. At least, for the next season.

Conçu comme une série d'expositions, le projet Transitioners de
Société Réaliste est un bureau de tendances spécialisé dans les
transitions politiques. En transposant dans le champ politique les
principes du design prospectif, généralement utilisés par les bureaux
de tendances de mode, Société Réaliste interroge la révolution
(transition?) en tant que catégorie centrale de la société occidentale
contemporaine. Transitioners s'intéresse aux mutations de la
révolution comme forme. Comment produit-on une "transition
démocratique"? Quel est le rôle du design dans la conversion
permanente de la politique en mythologie? Comment l'effet d'un
événement sur les
citoyens peut-il être transformé en un affect contrôlé?
Les bureaux de tendances de mode produisent quelques impressions
cruciales à la bonne santé nerveuse de l'industrie de la création,
comme
la variation dynamique du même ou le contrôle de l'imprévisible. Le
travail d’un bureau de tendances comme Transitioners consiste
à concevoir des collections de transitions politiques: en fonction de
l'atmosphère géopolitique du moment, il s’agit de définir l’ambiance
dans laquelle devront être développés les mouvements "révolutionnaires"
qui entendent maximiser leur efficacité politique et médiatique. A
Moscou, le duo parisien Société Réaliste propose une collection Transitioners
inspirée par la Révolution Française, intitulée Bastille Days. En
façonnant des outils de design prospectif, l'atmosphère spécifique de
cet événement révolutionnaire-là a été définie et se voit proposée
comme
base de tendances pour les transitions politiques à venir. Au moins
pour la saison prochaine.
