VISUAL CULTURE CAUCUS LUNCHTIME SESSION AT 2008 CAA IN DALLAS CALL FOR PROPOSALS The Fresh New Look of Sheepherding There is an inexorable pressure to reinvent forms of visual culture that function as political or ideological propaganda, since the moment they are widely recognized as such, they cease to be effective. Contemporary cultures treat media literacy as not only a desirable goal, but as a sort of new consumable, providing periodic ritualized unmaskings of media and government, satisfying an audience appetite to feel well-informed. Given the difficulty of circumventing this commodification of faux information, this sessions invites papers and projects which investigate the cutting edge of propagandaearly sightings of new venues, new tropes, new forms and guises of political manipulation. Domestic, international, contemporary and historical perspectives are welcome, as are presentations by or about artists working with propaganda as a subject matter. Please submit an abstract (up to 500 words), a brief CV and contact information (including summer contact information, if applicable) to Stephanie Bacon at [EMAIL PROTECTED] by May 25. _______________________________________________ nettime-ann mailing list [email protected] http://www.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-ann
