Merry Christmas all đ I would like to share a Call for Participation
for an experimental journal project:
Open Letters
A journal specialising in the reproduction of meaningful correspondence.
We publish copies of conversations that have already happened so that
they can still go on.
Volume 1, âtransformationâ, is open for submissions until Friday 31st
January 2025
We believe that dialogue, âliterary work consisting of a conversation
between two or more personsâ, is a powerful way to make and share
knowledge. Many of us know its ubiquity, as we spend so much of our
lives in our inboxes and WhatsApps. Some of us also know of the
different privileges afforded to different forms of media and dialogue:
the newspapers are different to the Discord server is different to the
academic journals are different to my emails with colleagues are
different to our chats down the pub. We believe that all of these forms
of conversation provide different and valid ways of making and sharing
understanding. Recording and sharing conversations more widely opens
those conversations to more people, along with the knowledges and
understandings transmitted through them. We believe that this can be a
Good Thing.
The theme for Volume 1 is âtransformationâ. We want conversations that
have made impacts in your life and the lives of people around you.
Perhaps you learned to understand something from a new perspective, or
you realised you had to make a change, or do something differently. We
invite people to share examples of sincere, intimate, and nourishing
conversations.
We accept open letters, private correspondence, and other communications
and exchanges taking place through many formats and media, including
postal and electronic mail, direct messages and group chats on digital
platforms, and audio and video recordings and transcripts of
conversations and relational interviews. We are open to other formats
which are not on this list, so donât be shy when submitting đ We
currently accept only submissions in English as that is the only natural
language the editor knows. All submissions must be made with the
explicit consent of all voices included.
