In Cyborg Manifesto, Donna J. Haraway describes the advent of
information technology in industrial society as a shift from
“comfortable old hierarchical dominations” to “scary new networks of
informatics of domination”. Fortunately for all of us, however, there
are also other, more humane networks that exist alongside these scary
networks of domination. From queer and crip communities, Roma and Sinti
communities, through alternative spaces and protocols, ecology, upcycled
home- and community-servers, to groups associated with feminist servers
and collaborative learning—these are networks for existence beyond
oppression. Networks that are more or less intertwined, networks for
life in all its forms and preferences. Networks created by the long-term
