For what purpose do you need to find a byte sequence? Is it a delimiter of some sort? In which case, perhaps a https://netty.io/4.0/api/io/netty/handler/codec/DelimiterBasedFrameDecoder.html is what you need?
Also, I don't think that the interface necessarily prevents you from identifying a sequence, simply stop when you have observed the sequence, rather than just the byte in question.
