Another report names Conficker and Nimda as the viruses 'responsible' for the crashes. For a modern computer system to remain unprotected against ye olde Nimda has to be beyond disgrace, even if one accepts that Conficker keeps morphing and possibly was not rooted out (despite being part of MS' own anti-malware toolset, never mind dedicated anti-virus programs) that morning.
Far more than worrying about individual viruses, though, anyone who holds a test in an environment where data loss could take place (applicants lost their data when the computers crashed halfway through the tests) has to need some serious head-examining. Please let us create a modified 'why FOSS' letter as suggested by Dinesh, and I will see that it is delivered to the Governing Board of IIMC (and help see it delivered to the rest of the boards as well). Of course, we can just send a compilation of news reports instead as attachments, and entitle the letter 'Why NOT FOSS?'.
