I think it depends on how you explain it to the AICTE officials.
I was a part of the team at our engg. college to guide the AICTE team regd
our IT infrastructure and they accepted our explanations on GNU/Linux, etc...
Yes my experiences in many colleges which have me as the IT adviser is
also similar to yours Vikram.
