MobileMedia Ideas LLC a Company owned by the MPEGLA. Now MPEGLA is the
standards body that governs the MPEG and H264 patents. The patents
are actually owned by members of the MPEGLA consortium, that includes
Sony, Nokia, Apple etc.
To add to the fun MobileMedia is suing Apple. Kind of very incestous,
this patent-in-standards business.
MobileMedias patent claims include "call handling, speed dial
functions, database searches, audio download and playback, and still
picture and video processing". Ofcourse we had all this stuff since
1983 in phones and since 1993 in videophones - yes AT&T made a
videophone in 93.
And Punit (my wife) and I (and in part two other engineers), have
personally developed audio and still picture capture, storage,
download, playback, relaying etc in 1988-93 using the Rockwell and
Yamaha modem chipsets coupled with a Z80 on a 286 PC AT ISA bus, as
part of a Multifunction machine.

Patents in standards is an extortion racket, pure and simple.
