Jail breaking a locked device (aka cicumvention of copyprotection) is 
not merely illegal it is a crime. You can be arrested.

 Protection of  technological measure
     “65A. (1) Any person who circumvents an effective technological 
applied for the purpose of protecting any of the rights conferred by 
this Act, with the  intention of infringing such rights, shall be 
punishable with imprisonment which may extend to two years and shall 
also be liable to fine.


The Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2010 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha 
on 19 April, 2010 by minister of Human Resource Development Kapil 
Sibal.
