Friends,
This is a potential path breaker - on lines of Keralam, the Karnataka
Education department has planned capacity building of teachers through
in-house cascade model (through teacher educators who are part of the
education system) on FOSS educational tools.
The success of this program will help in firmly implanting the power of
freedom and collaboration within the teaching community of the state,
and the support of all our friends is required/desired/welcome.... Dr
Nagarjuna and the Kerala i...@schools team have agreed to provide support
on the pedagogical components as well of the program.
Another point is that RV College of Engineering (thanks to Renuka
Prasad's efforts) has offered its facilities at very nominal charges to
the program and we think this can be a good model for "higher education
- school education" collaboration across the state, where
engineering/science and other colleges offer support in terms of
infrastructure, faculty, hand holding to schools/school teachers.
SSA has taken a decision to 'pilot' FOSS in their head office in
Bangalore (same place where the Lab where we had conducted teacher
training last year on FOSS, is) and the first training on basics - Open
Office, Firefox is scheduled on 21st.
Look forward to your support and suggestions.
thanks and regards,
Guru
apologies for top posting and cross posting.

Dear Friends,
I take great pleasure in informing you that the Policy Planning Unit
of the Education Department, with R V College of Engineering has
planned a training program on Computer Aided Learning Tools available
in GNU/Linux to create Master trainers at the state level. These MTs
will train the high school teachers in their respective blocks. This
program aims at building capacities of the selected 120 people, 4 from
each district, to become master trainers, and to use and impart
training on selected CAL tools available in GNU/Linux, in a cascading
model. This program will happen in 3 batches. The schedule would be
Batch 1: Aug 2nd to 5th
Batch 2: Aug 9th to 12th
Batch 3: Aug 16th to 19th.
The venue would be RVCE, Mysore Road, Bangalore.
I think like always, we (the community) should pitch in and give in
our bit to this endeavor. Suggestions and Volunteers are most welcome.
We will see the session plan for the batches shortly.
For more information about the CAL tools in the session, please get in
touch with bindu at itforchange.net. and for any other information,
