there's millions of rupees being made out of music even today, and you're
paying for it without being aware of it.
most of you probably have 'caller ringback tones', often paying Rs 15 per
month or more (do the math for a year or more) for 2 minutes of tinny-junk
to be heard irritatingly by someone who calls you.

most of you buy mobiles which ship with pre-loaded music, er... it's part of
your sales-price.

another movement for disagreeing on the EULA on this would have to be
launched.

a few pay for caller ringtones too.

hotels, restaurants, and public-places pay yearly licenses.
i often grin with glee in the bathrooms of 5-stars, where they pipe
in music. that's some money literally going down the drain,
never mind that music once started as a mode of performance
and worship meant exclusively for temples in ancient india.

any mp3-player you buy today wants to goad and push you to their online
services
to sell you some music.

even canonical wants to get into the music-selling business online.

i believe sandisk is selling SD cards in india pre-loaded with music.

artists have to pay fees for performing cover versions of copyrighted
material.

tv and radio stations broadcast music that you tune in to free,
but that's just bait to get you to listen to all that paid-for advertising
and of course jingles.

so yeah, music does make money.
it always has.
ask anarkali.

niyam
