At gnowledge.org lab we use this text. --- Free Software (FOSS) for for Science and Mathematics Teachers Workshop by Gnowledge Lab, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, Mumbai. (Secondary and Higher Secondary) [email protected] http://lab.gnowledge.org The use of ICT is increasingly becoming necessary for universal access to education for all. While several agencies are trying to develop the infrastructure, not much effort is being made in providing guidance, resource generation, capacity building and empowering the teachers. The philosophy of constructivism and constructionism in the context of studio based learning will be introduced. The activities address mathematics, animation, turtle graphics (basic computing), presentation, recording and editing of audio, video, art (painting, drawing and sketching), mind/concept mapping and general skills. Some of the topics in the workshop pertain to capacity building among teachers, collaborative construction of teaching/learning sequences, lesson planning, making of question banks etc. The following are the requirements: • The workshop will be conducted preferably in a School campus. • The DVD provided should be installed on the School Computers (Technical help in installatiion will be provided to the staff who maintain the lab.) • We assume prior knowledge of basic computing skills (typing, mouse handling, Internet browsing etc.) among the teachers. • One computer for each teacher for hands-on training. • Willingness to share the audio/video recordings of the workshop through the Internet under a suitable copyleft (creative commons attribution sharealike) license.
