Very true. As user, many times, even buying Linux loaded machine may be more pain. One school bought bulk Tablet PCs. The brochure: http://www.classmatepc.com/pdf/Intel-powered_convertible_classmate_PC_Product_Brief.pdf says you may have [Windows 7 / XP] (MS) / Linux. That school got Ubuntu loaded Tablets. They found most of software are quite old, datacard not working, blue-tooth not working, though it shows software are up to date. Reason, Ubuntu has dedicated repository for this and which is Ubuntu 8.04 Intel say you loose warranty if you upgrade Ubuntu version. Even if one is ready to loose warranty, no higher distribution work, as driver's for touch screen are not available. Now school is considering it as wastage of money, and wrong decision taken :-( All students will also get poor impression about Linux. Bad for all of us. Availability of drivers for all version and for all OS is must. If Govt. is convinced and willing, it can make it to happen. But, Govt. will do what attract votes, and what make public happy. -- H.S.Rai _______________________________________________ network mailing list [email protected] http://lists.fosscom.in/listinfo.cgi/network-fosscom.in
