Calvin Coolidge once famously declared that the business of the United States was business.
Several of our more voluble leaders (Coolidge was also well-known for his taciturnity), and our silent servants (government servants), appear to believe that the business of India is funny business. But this IMA news is a powerful signal. In the interests of fairness, an IAS association in UP has also instituted (in the absence of executive powers) Hall of Shame awards for their more notable colleagues. It hasn't quite caught on, although it is a good beginning.
