we have tried to mail/contact the Income Tax dept to request that they
should not have only MS Excel upload format for the Income tax returns,
but there is no response.
any ideas / constructive suggestions on what we could do
alternately any technical possibilities by which we could use
LibreOffice/OpenOffice to create the xml file for upload. (see mail below)

Hi Guru,
I was browsing the net for alternative for efiling other than in
microsoft and came across your blog and tried to call you on 98454 37730
too. We are having a huge problem reg efiling of information and are
forced to use microsoft products which seems like we are forced to do so
the govt.
Are you aware of a way around, ie to use open office or libre office to
upload to xml? So far only our xls from microsoft files get converted
and not any other files.
If you are aware of any way of using open source software for this
application, please advice as I would like to shift immediately.
