The term "consumer" is very different from the term "user".

Consumption as an act, is related to material depletion of natural
resources and/or (necessary) labour time. Once the software is
developed and the developer is paid for his labour time, there's
nothing in the software that can be consumed. The software itself is
not affected from the "wear and tear" that affects physical goods when
they are being used. The only consumption that takes place when
someone is **using** a software is electrical power, computer hardware
and his or her own (labour) time.

Likewise, when reading a book or listening to music, you may be
consuming the paper or the material of the CD. but you're not
consuming the ideas that these media convey, you are just interacting
with them.
