Thanks, Sasi. That's a fascinating story.

About Derek Khanna's
paper<http://www.hyperorg.com/misc/rsc_policy_brief_--_three_myths_about_copyright_law_and_where_to_start_to_fix_it_--_november_16_2012.pdf>that
the Republicans have apparently disavowed, there's nothing
particularly new or startling about it except, as you have observed, the
unusual source. I find it a bit hard to buy Slate's argument that the GOP
can make inroads into Hollywood -- which is regarded as staunchly
pro-copyright -- by "elevating the salience of copyright reform". They'd
probably push the conservative movie moguls into the waiting arms of the
Democrats.

If it's the Mickey Mouse Protection
Act<http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/1999/01/17327>in the US,
it's Tagore in India. Copyright terms just keep getting longer
and longer.

By the way, why are critiques of copyright law invariably couched in terms
of comic books and the hideous prospect that Peter Parker may never appear
in an Avengers movie? If one is making a case against copyright, there
could be more compelling arguments than the divine right to make hentai
mashups set to thrash metal.

warm regards,
Sajan
